‘Who am I’
From 11 July to 10 September



‘Who am I’ is the first solo exhibition of artist Nguyen Minh Chau. The exhibition will be held from 11 July to 10 September at Toong Co-Working Space, 3rd 8 Trang Thi St, Hoan Kiem Dist., Hanoi. It includes 19 lacquer paintings with many themes.

Vietnam gets the finger-style
19 July
International Finger-Style Guitar Festival (IFSGF) comprises a series of international finger-style guitar concerts. This is an annual event that has been organized continuously since 2010 in Asia. It includes famous finger-style guitarists from many countries.
This year, IFSGF is on at 8 p.m. 19 July at the Youth Theatre, 11 Ngo Thi Nham St, Hanoi.
Tickets range from VND600,000 to VND1,200,000. Tickets are available at Youth Theatre, 11 Ngo Thi Nham St, Hanoi, Guitar Plus, 14B Hao Nam St, Hanoi.




‘Non’ performance
21 July



‘Non’, a contemporary dance accompanying with Vietnamese traditional music, will be performed 8 p.m. at L’Espace, 24 Trang Tien St, Hanoi.
The show includes choreographer – dancer Vu Ngoc Khai, music composer Ngo Hong Quang and program producer Van Quy Ngoc Ai.
‘Non’ features the skilful mixture of the interesting body movements of the contemporary dance and the melodic flows performed acoustically of chieng day (String Gong), dan tinh (a 3-string instrument from Tay ethnic minority), dan moi 3 la (3-piece mouth harp), dan moi 1 la (1 piece mouth harp), dan bau (monochord) and singing.

Song and dance routine
29 and 30 July
A night of concert and ballet will be held at 8 p.m. 29 and 30 July at Hanoi Opera House, 1 Trang Tien St, Hoan Kiem Dist., Hanoi. Part 1 includes ‘Passacaglia’ by G.F. Handel, ‘Stabat Mater for soprano and alto’ by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi with the performance by conductor Le Phi Phi, sopranos Le Thi Vanh Khuyen and Tran Thi Trang, altos Nguyen Thu Quynh and Nguyen Phuong Dong, and artists from Vietnam National Opera and Ballet. Part 2 is a 45-minute contemporary ballet ‘An absent-minded Guy’ with the music of Roderick Vanderstraen, choreographer Pham Minh and dancers from Vietnam National Opera & Ballet.

Oh what a feeling
5 and 6 August
‘Toyota Concert Tour 2016’ will be showed at 8 p.m. on 5 and 6 August at Hanoi Opera House with conductor Honna Tetsuji, pianist Vu Hoang Linh and artists from the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra. The program includes overture opera ‘Russian and Ludmila’ of Glinka, ‘Piano Concerto no. 2’ of Rachmaninov and ‘Symphony no.5 E-minor, op.64’ of Tchaikovsky.

Fairies!

Craig Thomas Gallery presents an exhibition by Saigon-based artist Khoa Le, an illustrator, writer and author of picture books for children. The exhibition displays her paintings made from many materials. Each painting is a story of a fairy world. ‘Sketching Vietnamese History’
Till 2 August



‘Sketching Vietnamese History’ is the first large-scale solo exhibition by senior artist Quach Phong. It showcases colour sketches of historical events from the legendary era of Hung Kings 2000BC until the early of Le Dynasty in the 1500s. The sketches are drawn on paper scrolls 50 metres in length. The highlight of the exhibition is that the first 12 sketches will be made on lacquer.
The event is on till 2 August at HCM Fine Arts Museum, 97 A Pho Duc Chinh St, Dist.1, Ho Chi Minh City.

‘Dislocated’ wood
Till 23 August
An installation exhibition by Bui Cong Khanh is on till 23 August at the Factory Contemporary Art Centre, 15 Nguyen U Di St, Thao Dien, Dist 2, Ho Chi Minh City. It is themed ‘Dislocate’ which is his largest exhibition. In his art installation, the wood of jackfruits become lively, referring to a myriad of social and cultural histories of Vietnam in style and subject. Over two years of work with a team of expert wood carvers and carpenters from Hoi An, the exhibition contains a series of stories about this ancient town.

ITE re-up
8 - 10 September

Vietnam gets the finger-style
20 July

A O Show is a 60-minute performance with a mix of bamboo cirque, acrobatic acts, contemporary dance and theatrical visual art. It depicts the charming beauty and richness in culture of Vietnamese lives in the countryside and the country’s urbanization. It will be on at 6 p.m. on 18, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27, 28 July and 8 p.m. on 17, 24, 30, 31 July at HCMC Opera House, 7 Lam Son Square, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1, HCMC. ‘The Music of Johann Sebastian Bach’
9 August
A music night of Johann Sebastian Bach will be on at 8 p.m. 9 August at the Opera House, 7 Lam Son Square, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1, HCMC. The concerts including Vietnamese classical virtuosos from HCMC Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera, Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra and Vietnam National Academy of Music. Moreover, there will be the participation of artists from International Chamber Players from America.
