Art from the ‘Seoul’

Till 17 June

The exhibition ‘Ancient Seoul and Korean traditional folk paintings’ is on at the Korean Cultural Centre till 17 June. It includes more than 40 royal fork and traditional folk paintings and Korean traditional crafts depicting Korean daily and spiritual life. There will be a presentation by artist Jung Seung Hui, who contributes to the development and heritage of traditional folk paintings.

Market photos

A collection of Long Bien market photos, taken over three years with the guidance of Vietnam in Focus tour leader and photographer Colm Pierce, is on display at 46 Hang Vai St, Hanoi till 20 June. Free entry.

Paris Ballet

11 June
‘Paris Ballet par VPBank’ will be shown on 11 June at the Vietnam National Convention Centre, 57 Pham Hung St, Tu Liem District, Hanoi. It features excerpts from nine ballets: Roland Petit’s ‘Carmen’, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s ‘The Nutcracker’, Adolphe Adam’s ‘Giselle’, Marius Petipa’s ‘Don Quixote’, Jerome Robbins’ ‘In the Night’, José Martinez’s ‘Children of Paradise’, Ivan Favier’s ‘No, I Don’t Regret Anything’, Roland Petit’s ‘Proust or the Heart's Intermissions’, and Angelin Preljocaj’s ‘The Park’.
The classical part of ‘Paris Ballet par VPBank’ will be accompanied by live music performed by the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra. World-renowned French pianist Henri Barda will also take part, playing Chopin for ‘In the Night’.

Come to a spiritual world
9, 11, 23 and 25 June

‘Four Palaces’, a 45-minute performance of a spirit medium’s rituals worshipping the Mother Goddess, combines the effects of sound and light. The shows are on at 6 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. on 9, 11, 23 and 25 June at the Worker’s Theatre, 42 Trang Tien St, Hanoi. Tickets from VND125,000 to VND295,000.

A night of French and German music will be performed at 8 p.m. on 10 June at Hanoi Opera House with conductor Dong Quang Vinh and the artists from Orchestra of the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet.

Noted conductor to lead VNSO concert
25 June

A concert with conductor Honna Tetsuji, tuba artist Truong Tan Sang, violin soloist Tran Le Quang Tien, clarinet soloist Nguyen Manh Linh and the artists from the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra will be performed at 8 p.m. on 25 June at Vietnam National Academy of Music, 77 Hao Nam St, Hanoi.

The Museum of Culture in Hue is displaying several examples of ao dai, a collection of Thai Kim Lan, and daily objects of Vietnam till 12 June. They are arranged in a multimedia room combining with video installations to tell the stories of each ao dai.

‘La Vie - Colour Me Run’
25 June
Following up the successful events in 2015, La Vie Colour Me Run will come back for the third edition at Asia Park, Hai Chau Dist., Danang on 25 June.
This year, the event with IMAGINA message will be visualized through the art of origami. All participants can expect to fully experience a colourful 5-kilometre jog, walk or run and enjoy being doused head to toe in different colours at each kilometre. Let’s go fly a kite!

May to September

A kite festival is held by The Cliff Resort & Residences from Tuesday to Saturday between May and September at Ong Dia Beach, Ham Tien Ward, Phan Thiet City, Binh Thuan Province. It features hundreds of kites with a variety of colours, shapes and sizes. Besides this, there are many activities on the beach including kayaking, surfing and building sandcastles.

Southern fruits festival

Southern Fruits Festival will be held at the Suoi Tien Theme Park, in Dist.9, Ho Chi Minh City, till 9 June. The event includes many different kinds of Vietnamese fruits and put on sale with promotions up to 40 per cent discount.
Local residents and tourists will be able to learn more about safe fruit traders while experienced chefs and bartenders will get creative with local fruits.

Cham celebration
15 to 17 July
A Cham festival will take place from 15 to 17 July in An Giang Province, with the participation of 11 provinces and cities where Cham communities reside including Danang, Quang Nam, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, Dong Nai, Tay Ninh, Binh Phuoc, An Giang and Ho Chi Minh City. The event features Cham traditional performances, festive activities, costume show, exhibitions, introduction of Cham specialities and sport competitions.
